Beware Of False Prophets

Posted By on May 21, 2011

I have in my file a book that had wide distribution in 1988 titled: “88 Reasons Why Christ Will Come in 1988.”  1988 came and went without Christ’s return.

Harold Camping is another false prophet who predicted the rapture would occur yesterday, May 21st.  Obviously, since we are still here, Camping was wrong.  Deuteronomy 18:20-22 says, “the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak… And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath NOT spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously.”

The amazing thing to me is the multitudes that bought into Camping’s prophecy. He previously predicted the coming of Christ in 1994, and was wrong then. You would think people would not be so quick to jump on his rapture bandwagon again.  Anyone who knows their Bible, knows that setting a date for the coming of Christ is forbidden (Mt. 24:36).  Camping deceived thousands of people, taking their money, and causing many to lose their jobs and ruin relationships.  He brought reproach on cause of Christ by making a mockery of true Bible believers everywhere.

Camping should be man enough to confess he is a false prophet and apologize for leading so many people astray. But I doubt he will.        The truth is, Christ could have returned during Paul’s lifetime.  His coming is imminent, therefore we should be ready 24/7.

“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” – Mt. 24:42
