Leadership and Prayer

Posted By on March 29, 2011

O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. —Nehemiah 1:11

The book of Nehemiah is a classic example of Biblical leadership. One principle of leadership we learn from Nehemiah’s legacy includes his habit of prayer. Persistent, passionate, humble prayer; prayer that stems from a heart broken over the condition of the world; prayer that produces a resolve to be used by God; prayer in the moment of need. Nehemiah’s lifestyle of prayer produced discernment, courage and boldness. Nehemiah didn’t depend on his position of proximity to the king to bring success, he depended on intimate connection to God.
