TWO KINGS?

Where is he that is born King of the Jews? … When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled… — Matthew 2:2-3
So Jesus has been born, what now?
The problem with baby kings is that they grow up and want to rule. Herod the king recognized this when he heard of the wise men who came seeking “he that is born King of the Jews” (Mt. 2:2). Herod saw the handwriting on the wall— “If Jesus is King, then I am not. This town isn’t big enough for both of us.”
Christmas for many is about fun and family. They are in control of Christmas, and they want to keep it that way. After it is over, Christmas can be packed up in boxes and stored away and forgotten until next year. But when Jesus moves out of swaddling clothes and ascends to a throne, we are not in control—If Jesus is King, then you and I are not! There is not room for two kings in your life.
Most people, want a Hallmark card Jesus… a cute baby Jesus in a manger that we can control. As it was in time of the Judges— “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25).
Is your Christmas about a babe in a manger, or a King sitting upon the throne of your life? Either Jesus is King, or you are, but you can’t have it both ways. Herod knew this.
