The Generation of the Uncommitted

The difference between church “attenders” and church “members” can be summed up in one word: COMMITMENT.
In today’s text, King David is asking for a commitment to serve the Lord. We live in an age when very few are committed to anything… a job… a marriage… a church… a ministry… or even our country. This casual attitude has produced a generation of pew warmers and “church hoppers.” Commitment swims against the current of America’s “consumer religion.” Commitment removes people from their comfort zone and makes them accountable. That is what the causal Christian seeks to elude at all costs.
The way to avoid responsibility and accountability is don’t make a commitment—No authority to answer to… no demands on your time… no schedule to keep… just do your own thing. But if you want to build your Christian character, get committed to a cause greater than yourself.
