Just Be A Little Child

We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. —2 Corinthians 4:7
Here is something for you to consider:

“You are too self-conscious. Self-love will let you become sentimental about yourself and overly concerned with your problems. Soon all this worry will cloud over the sense of God’s presence in your life and then you will really be depressed… Stop being so taken up with yourself. Your old nature wants to be perfect. It will push you in every way to be an outstanding Christian. Please avoid this trap. You do not need to see yourself as a wise, strong, virtuous person. Just be a little child.”
Since reading this, I’ve given it some thought and I believe it is true. As Jesus said, “Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” —Matthew 18:3
It is hard for us prideful grown ups to be a little child. Little children don’t get the credit for anything except being cute. However, little children hardly get anything right, and that’s our problem—We always want to get everything right, and get the credit for being right.
It would be better to enjoy the simplicity of a child-like faith “that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”
I believe this to be true and this to be a helpful devotion topic. I’m pretty sure that I fell into this trap already and was quite depressed for a couple of years. With God’s help and strength though, through Him, I have been made an overcomer and I imagine that, that particular road was for me to journey to get me where He wants me to be. I can say that it has been the hardest road that I’ve traveled but as hard as it has been for me, I know that I have grown from it and only to find a most excellent savior waiting for me to get there.
